I am an active (and possibly rabid) supporter of Open Access in all its forms. From academic publishing, to educational resources, and data, Open Access is helpful to a wide variety of users and it helps spread knowledge without restrictive copyright boundaries.
I have written about the need for Open Access publishing here, and here, as well as I am the Managing Editor and founder of the open access journal communication +1, where we publish articles without cost to the author or reader, ensuing the freedom to publish and disseminate information.
My work with the Wiki Education Foundation, as well as the Wikimedia Foundation, support this ethic of freedom of information, and the potentially radical empowerment that comes with access to information.
